Good luck, Sharon! It's really hard to get into a blogging habit. I had to create some structure by doing regularly occurring features (like reviews on Wednesdays, writing news on Fridays, etc.). I don't HAVE to stick the schedule, but it sometimes help when I'm stuck feeling like I have nothing to say.

Sharon, What a lovely tribute to your friend you've written here.

My father was a JAG during WWII. I remember as a child being shocked to learn that the army had been segregated at that time.

He also told me a story that continues to haunt me, of a black soldier who was court martialed for going about a hundred yards off base to a bar, while white soldiers who did the same thing got off with a reprimand.

Read the novel, Rescue at Pine Ridge, "RaPR", a great story of black military history...the first generation of Buffalo Soldiers.

How do you keep a people down? ‘Never' let them 'know' their history.

The 7th Cavalry got their butts in a sling again after the Little Big Horn Massacre, fourteen years later, the day after the Wounded Knee Massacre. If it wasn't for the 9th Cavalry Buffalo Soldiers, there would of been a second massacre of the 7th Cavalry.

I have young soldiers in my college classes, some that have served 3 tours of duty in the Middle East. They all have post traumatic stress, trouble relaxing and readjusting to life after military duty. War changes and haunts them. I think this has always been the case. I know my father never spoke of what happened when he was in the Air Force in WWII.

Our soldiers are not understood...that needs to change. You're writing can help with the healing.
